My Philosophy
My Teaching Philosophy
As an educator, my goal is to create a positive, engaging, and student-centered learning environment where all students feel supported, challenged, and excited to grow. I believe that when students feel safe and valued, they are more willing to take academic risks, tackle challenges, and develop a love for learning. Every child learns differently, and I strive to meet them where they are—helping them build confidence, curiosity, and independence along the way.
A Love for Literacy & Learning
With a master’s degree in literacy and Orton-Gillingham training, I have a deep passion for teaching reading and writing in a way that is both structured and engaging. I have experience teaching both PreK and third grade, as well as tutoring students using Orton-Gillingham strategies to support their literacy development. I believe in explicit, systematic instruction that provides students with the tools they need to succeed, while also fostering a love for books, storytelling, and self-expression.
A Hands-On, Gradual Release Approach
I structure my teaching around the Gradual Release of Responsibility Model—"I do, we do, you do." This model allows students to first see concepts modeled clearly, practice with guidance, and then apply their learning independently. Whether it’s working through a challenging math concept, strengthening reading comprehension, or developing writing skills, I ensure that students receive the support they need before taking ownership of their learning.
I also prioritize small-group instruction to differentiate learning and provide targeted support. These small groups allow me to tailor lessons to individual needs, reinforce key skills, and challenge students at the right level—making learning more personalized and interactive.
Making Learning Engaging & Fun
I believe that learning should be active, meaningful, and fun! By incorporating hands-on activities, movement, games, and technology, I try to create lessons that spark curiosity and engagement. Whether it’s a classroom transformation, an interactive read-aloud, or a hands-on science experiment, I strive to make learning experiences that students look forward to.
A Supportive & Inclusive Classroom
Beyond academics, I work hard to build a strong classroom community where students feel safe and encouraged to learn. I emphasize a growth mindset, teaching students that mistakes are valuable learning opportunities. Through social-emotional learning, collaborative projects, and praise, I strive to help students develop a strong sense of self as an individual.
At the center of my teaching, my goal is simple: to inspire students to learn, nurture their strengths, and help them grow into curious, capable, and confident learners. I want them to feel ready to accomplish anything in and beyond the classroom.
